The secret to making makeup colour work best
for you PT 1

Getting your makeup right can seem so difficult so I’m going to share with you the secret to making makeup colour work best for you.

Have you ever been dressed up and ready to go out and for some reason, something just doesn’t look right?

It could be as simple as the wrong shade of lipstick or eye shadow. Just by applying a few basic makeup tips and tricks, you can easily perfect the look.

The way to decide which makeup colours work best for you, is to understand how this is determined. In a nutshell, our perfect colour ranges are dependent on 3 key elements. Our hair, skin tone and eyes.

Without getting too technical, if you’ve ever had your colours done, you’ll be categorised as one of the seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter.

What does that mean exactly? Put simply, a Spring complexion will have lighter hair, light skin with a warm undertone and light eyes, a Summer complexion will have light hair, light skin with cool pink undertones and light or hazel eyes, an Autumn complexion will have darker to brown hair, warm skin tone and dark eyes and a Winter complexion will have dark hair, pale skin and light eyes.

To understand this a little better, if we think of popular actresses, Nicole Kidman would be Spring, Gwynneth Paltrow Summer, Julia Roberts Autumn and Elizabeth Taylor a classic Winter.

When looking at what makeup colours suit you best, a Spring complexion lends itself to warm and bright colours, Summer complexion to softer shades like pastels, white, Autumn complexion to warm, muted colours like mustard, and browns, and Winter complexion with cool and bright colours like hot pink and red.

ASAP MINERAL BRONZER TWOThis doesn’t mean that you can’t wear all colours. You can. It’s getting the shade of the makeup colour right.

When I had my colours done, I was pretty good with understanding my colours already but one colour that looked amazing was coral.

I would never have thought the colour would suit me and have added coral to my wardrobe and makeup palette ever since.

Incidentally, the colour coral, is something that compliments almost everyone, no matter what season you are. Try it!

Now that I’ve shared the secret to making makeup colour work for you, this is also one of the best makeup tips and tricks for a natural look. You see when you use colour that compliments your season, it looks incredible and people can’t help but comment. Coupled with the right coloured outfit, you are dressed for success. People will be saying, “Wow who is that?”

So where to from here? With this powerful tool in mind, the next step is to know a bit more about blending and mixing makeup colours. This will take a bit of practice but like everything else, it’s only a matter of time before you’ll be a pro.

Stay tuned until next week, where I will go a little deeper into the best colours for each complexion and season and sharing another secret to making makeup colour work best for you.
